How do I take notes?
1. Read the information.
2. Determine what you need and write it down. Do NOT copy and paste. That is plagiarism.
3. Write in bullets or short phrases.
4. Use abbreviations when you can.
5. Keep your sources and information organized. Source Sheets are a great way to do that.

Using Youtube as a source
Youtube is not meant to be an academic source because it has no filter and most information posted on it isn’t fact-checked, however it can be useful if you evaluate the video or if you know a reliable source has posted there. For example, TED talks are credible, useful sources and they are posted on Youtube. Also, many times you can find videos posted by university professors or other experts. With Youtube, like any other online source, you must evaluate it. When evaluating a video on it, ask:
- Who is the author of the video? Is he/she an expert about the topic? Is an organization/business sponsoring the video?
- What is the purpose of this video?
- How current is this video?
- Does this video support other information I have found in my research?
- Is the information hard to believe? If so, can it be verified by another source?
How do I create a Works Cited Page?
A Works Cited page gives credit to all of the sources you have used for your research. It prevents plagiarism and shows others that you used reliable, credible sources to support your work.
