Counterargument for Time Person of the Year Research Paper
7th Grade/Track 1
Objective:
You are writing a counterargument to your original persuasive essay about the Time person of the year.
Begin Your Research:
Searching Google:
When Googling use search terms that include the person's name and possible negative topics associated with the person.
For example: "Mother Teresa and criticism"
For example: "Mother Teresa and ungenerous" since it is thought by some she wasn't as generous as suggested.
For example: "Mother Teresa and scandal."
You need to type the word AND to string the two topics together. This tells Google to look for both.
Use credible web sites. Evaluate the following:
- Look at the URL's ending. Is it a .org, .edu, .gov, or .com?
- Who is the author?
- What is the info trying to do? Persuade you? Sell you something? Inform you? Educate you?
- Are there ads on the page?
- When was the page published?

Organizing your Information:
Look at your topic and find two possible web sites you may want to use for research. Fill out the source note sheet for two sites.
Make a copy after you've logged into your Google Account, then begin typing.
Source Information--Be sure to look for source information to complete your note sheets such as author, publication date, etc. The date of access is the date you accessed the info. You must look for this info for your web site. For your online databases, the citation is often provided to you.
Notetaking--Read then Write. Summarize the info in your own words.
